Feds say they uncovered meth lab in Cobb County neighborhood, 3 arrested

A press conference with more details was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A traffic stop led to the discovery of a large meth lab in a Cobb County residential neighborhood this week, according to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

The DEA held a news conference later Wednesday in Atlanta. A release ahead of that press conference said on Tuesday, three people were arrested and roughly 500 kilograms of meth was seized.

The location of the meth lab has not yet been disclosed. The traffic stop leading to this discovery was conducted by Georgia State Patrol troopers, and the DEA said the three individuals arrested are believed to be in the U.S. illegally.

The news conference with further details is scheduled for 3 p.m.

"The chemicals found in conversion labs are highly volatile and may ignite or explode if mixed or stored improperly," the DEA release said. "Fire and explosion pose risks not only to the individuals producing the methamphetamine, but also to anyone in the surrounding area. In this case, the conversion lab was located in a residential neighborhood, and was within close proximity to nine elementary schools, seven middle schools and nine high schools."
