MARIETTA, Ga. — In about 10 hours, deputies in Cobb County were able to put an inmate, who they said walked away from a work detail, back behind bars.
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office said they arrested 48-year-old Corey Morris Wednesday after he walked off of a work detail Tuesday night. Two others accused of aiding Morris' escape were also taken into custody.
Deputies claim Morris, who they said was assigned from a low-risk inmate work crew, left his work area around 10 p.m. Tuesday and ran into the woods.
They launched a search and looked for Morris throughout the night. After following leads, investigators found the inmate at a Motel 6 on Delk Road in Marietta Wednesday around noon.
“This inmate worker could have taken advantage of an opportunity to be productive while in custody but instead fled the jail for a few hours of freedom,” Sheriff Neil Warren said in a statement. “Our investigators, uniform deputies and the entire team did a great job tracking him down and getting Morris into custody without incident.”
As for the other two men arrested, 40-year-old Lane Deary was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and 25-year-old Marc Mowod was charged with hindering apprehension of escape.
All three men are being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center..
