ATLANTA — One of the Atlanta Police Department's most wanted fugitives was arrested in a dramatic video showing officers storming a MARTA bus to apprehend the suspect, who's been on the run since 2023.
According to the police, Randy Baugh was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 15, around 10:30 a.m., after APD and the MARTA Police Department received an alert that he was traveling on a MARTA bus in southwest Atlanta.
Officers quickly responded to the bus’s location, boarded it, and immediately identified Baugh, despite his attempt to deceive them by giving them a false name, Randy Jackson.
Baugh was initially arrested in November 2023 for two cold case sex crimes dating back to 1986 and 1988.
However, police said shortly after his arrest, he managed to escape custody at Grady Detention, leading to his placement on APD’s Top 10 most wanted list. Since his escape, he had evaded law enforcement until his capture on Thursday.
The body cam footage released by APD captures the tense moments as officers approach Baugh on the bus. In the video, Baugh is seen attempting to mislead officers by providing a fake name, but police had already identified him through surveillance.
Baugh is now back in custody at Grady Detention Center.
