Cop suspected of stealing police motorcycle arrested

COVINGTON, GA (WXIA) -- A Covington Police Officer is behind bars after being arrested in connection to a stolen DeKalb County Sheriff's Department motorcycle.

A Crime Stoppers tip led authorities to the Newton County home of Officer John Laudermilk. He's accused of being in the possession of a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle belonging to the DeKalb County Police Department.

He's a former employee of that department and according to Covington Police Department's Public Information Officer, Craig Treadwell, the theft is believed to have happened during his employment.

According to authorities, on Oct. 28, the Newton and DeKalb County investigators served a search warrant on Laudermilk's property where they located and seized the motorcycle.

Laudermilk is charged with theft by perceiving, giving false statements in a political subdivision and concealing the identity of a vehicle. He was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
