Kroger employee stabbed released from hospital; Detective describes bloody attack in suspect's court appearance

Police said the attack, which happened in the break room, was caught on surveillance.

GRAYSON, Ga. — The Kroger worker stabbed allegedly by another employee earlier this month has been released from the hospital.

A detective went over some of the horrific details on the case, Tuesday, at a court hearing for the suspect, 21-year-old Akin Williams of Snellville.

11Alive also learned the victim, 59-year-old Maria Mosher, was released from the hospital on Monday.

On Nov. 17, a little after 6 a.m., officers were initially called to the Kroger on Grayson Highway in Grayson for a report of a person who fell, the detective testified. However, they learned soon after someone was stabbed.

Police said when they arrived, witnesses told them the suspect was still in the store. They were taken to the break room - where the alleged attack happened - which was covered in blood. The victim, who was Williams' supervisor, had stab wounds on her arms, legs and puncture wounds in her stomach.

The encounter between Mosher and Williams was caught on surveillance.

In court, 11Alive learned the video captured the victim and Williams entering the store, with him then following her to the break room. Although he worked at the store, he was not scheduled to be at work that early in the morning, the detective testified.

The detective said Williams pulled the door stop and closed the door behind him. The victim placed items in the refrigerator and her locker and then the suspect approached her from the side, attacked her and then brought her to the ground, punching her.

Police said the suspect then pulled something out of the front pocket on his right side and started making stabbing movements, the detective testified.

Video shows the two were in the break room for about an hour before another employee entered the room. The detective said Williams hesitated for a moment and then let the employee in. He allegedly told that person that Mosher had fallen. He claimed he had called 911 for help.

That employee went outside and called 911 herself after she didn't see any police or ambulances arrive. The detective said when she returned to the break room, Williams was gone. That's when she noticed the blood all over her.

Police said the video showed Williams trying to clean the blood off the floor. You also reportedly see him put the towels he used in a garbage bag. He was still inside of the store when police arrived at the scene.

When officers found Williams in the Kroger, they said he walked up to the police with his hands in the air. They placed him into custody, and he asked for a lawyer before detectives could talk with him about what happened. The victim, however, told officers Williams attacked her, they said.

The victim suffered two skull fractures, brain bleeding, five broken ribs and required multiple stitches for the cuts on her neck, face, and stab wounds in her leg.

Police said there were times during the attack in which the victim tried to get up to leave, but the suspect would slam her to the floor, kick her in the face or drag her away from the door.

The victim said there hadn't been any history of aggressiveness or threats. However, they had in the past had arguments about work tasks.

Ultimately, Williams is facing aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and kidnapping charges.
