DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Two people were shot overnight near a DeKalb gas station and restaurant, according to police on Wednesday morning.
DeKalb County Police Department said officers were called around 2 a.m. to the intersection of Covington Highway and DeKalb Medical Parkway, where the two people were shot. That's the address of a BP Gas Station, which is next to Atlanta's Best Wings.
11Alive had a crew at the scene and saw that the investigation was taking place closer to the wing restaurant.
When officers arrived, police said they found two people who had gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the two individuals were involved in a dispute when the gunfire broke out. They were both taken to the hospital critically hurt, according to the police department.
Surveillance video from inside Atlanta's Best Wings appears to show someone at the counter, and then another person walks up to him; the man at the counter reacts, and shots ring out. In the surveillance video, you can hear multiple rounds and can also see the reaction as employees run for cover.
Now, those who frequent the area are calling for an end to the violence.
“Enough is enough; we’re all frustrated, and it’s sad,” Lithonia resident Sheri Bratton said. "It’s sad that in our community that this is going on and it doesn’t make sense... I don’t feel safe in my community. You can't even leave work and stop at the store to pick up some wings without gunfire."
Police are actively investigating and have not provided any more information about the shooting or those involved.
