Former Coweta County Sheriff's Deputy arrested in connection to assault investigation

James Arthur Broadwater was arrested and charged with pointing a pistol at another and violation of oath by a public officer.

NEWNAN, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged a former Coweta County Deputy with pointing a pistol at another and violation of oath by a public officer. 

On May 7, the Coweta County Sheriff's Office requested the GBI to investigate allegations that James Arthur Broadwater, 31, of Newnan, pointed a pistol at another Coweta County Sheriff's Deputy. 

According to a statement released by the GBI, the investigation indicates that, following roll call at the sheriff's office on May 1, Broadwater was in an argument with another deputy, and Broadwater pulled his weapon from his holster and pointed it at the other deputy.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI regional investigative office in Columbus at 706-565-7888. According to the GBI's statement, once the investigation is complete, they will give the case file to the Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
