AUBURN, Ga. — State agents now say that a man injured by return fire after a police chase in Barrow County did more than just shoot at officers.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 31-year-old Casey Taylor was both the driver and shooter in an incident near Auburn, Georgia on Tuesday.
That would mean he was likely at the wheel when his truck slammed into a deputy's patrol car and eventually opened fire on deputies - an incident captured on dash camera.
Investigators said he attempted to escape a deputy who was trying to stop him for a traffic violation - instead opting for a slow-speed chase over several miles.
But it was the final part of the chase that ultimately brought state agents in to investigate after a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver - and then Taylor allegedly opening fire.
The GBI said he fired at least 10 times at deputies while they were still in their vehicles and they returned fire hitting him and a woman riding with him.
New information released on Wednesday suggests that he rammed a deputy's patrol car at some point during the chase - information that wasn't available during the preliminary investigation on Tuesday.
Despite the shots, and now, the ramming, officials haven't released exactly what charges he will face. However, the latest update from the GBI suggests he had already been released from the hospital and placed in Barrow County Sheriff's Office custody.
No deputies were injured in the crash. The injured passenger in Taylor's truck remains in the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Since the crash, the district attorney in the area has already reviewed dashcam video and cleared the deputies involved.
If the GBI has more to add to the case, they will also be submitting it to him once they complete the investigation.
