Dawson mayor indicted on child molestation charges

Authorities say the former mayor of Dawson, Ga., 26-year-old Christopher Wright, was indicted on charges related to child molestation.

DAWSON, Ga. -- The mayor of a Georgia town has bonded out of jail after he was indicted on several charges related to a Georgia of Bureau of Investigation child molestation case.

Authorities say Christopher Wright was indicted June 6 on charges of Aggravated Child Molestation, Aggravated Sodomy, Child Molestation, Rape and Statutory Rape.

Authorities say the former mayor of Dawson was implicated by the victim during the February 2016 trial of Milton Johnson, 52. Two other people, Takieya Johnson, 35 and Erica Soilberry-Johnson, 32, were also convicted as a result of the same GBI investigation.

Information from officials does not indicate what took place in the alleged molestation incidents or when they happened.

The 26-year-old surrendered to the Terrell County Jail June 8 and made a first appearance the same day. Authorities said he posted the $50,000 bond and was released from jail.
