ATLANTA — A 1-year-old child is injured and two others dead following a head-on collision last Friday, according to Rome Police.

The department noted that just after 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 6, an officer saw a black Dodge Charger speeding at an "extremely high rate." However, the officer could not keep up with the car and called for other units to be on the lookout.

Eventually, another officer traveling on Riverside Parkway spotted the Charger, still speeding on Turner McCall Boulevard. After following the speeding car, the officer arrived at the scene of a head-on collision between the Charger and a Honda Accord.

That collision resulted in the deaths of two people in the other car, according to police. A 1-year-old infant was also critically injured, while those in the Charger only had minor injuries, according to the police department.

Officers eventually arrested the driver of the Charger, Omar Garcia. The police department said that he is being charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of serious injury by vehicle, DUI, driving without a license, fleeing/attempting to elude, reckless driving, and driving too fast for conditions.

Rome Police said he is being booked into the Floyd County Jail.

Those who died during the crash have been identified as 23-year-old Kadrian Harris and 23-year-old Malik Henderson.
