Woman killed, man injured after East Point shooting | Suspect arrested

EAST POINT, Ga. — A woman is dead and a man injured following a shooting in East Point Tuesday night, according to police.

Officers said they were sent to the area of Pointview Dr. around 10:30 p.m. Once there, they found a man and woman lying near a car, both of whom had gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. However, the woman, Myesa Green, died from her injuries. 

In an arrest warrant, East Point Police identified a third person involved: the suspect, Jerome Issac Coggins. 

According to the warrant, Coggins and Green had gotten into a fight that eventually turned physical. Afterward, police said that he went inside his home, grabbed a gun and started shooting at both her and the male victim. 

Police add that Green and the male victim attempted to flee in a car, but Coggins allegedly continued to shoot at the vehicle.

Coggins is now facing charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.
