Victim identified in deadly shooting along Stone Mountain Highway

Police say a suspect has been arrested in the incident.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man died after a shooting in a motel parking lot along Stone Mountain Highway on Friday, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department. 

Authorities investigated the shooting at the Budgetel Inn & Suites at 4350 Stone Mountain Hwy. The motel is between Rockbridge and Snellville, Georgia, and across from Stone Mountain Nissan and down the road from Dollar Tree.

The police department said when officers arrived, they found the man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where police said he died from his injuries.

The victim was later identified as 60-year-old Victor Ricks, of Snellville.

At the time of the shooting, the suspect, 58-year-old Hugh Forman, ran away from the scene before officers arrived but was later arrested. Forman is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and cruelty to children. 

Investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other, but have not clarified their relationship.
