Officers said they were sent out to Scenic Highway around 10:45 p.m. over reports of "an altercation involving a large group of people" on Saturday.

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Editor's Note: This report previously stated a man was the victim. According to recent information from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the victim was a 16-year-old boy. The information below has been updated to reflect the new information.

A teen is now behind bars after a 16-year-old boy died when a fight among a large group of people led to gunfire Saturday night in Snellville during a party, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said.

Keegan Gates, 17, was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person under 18, according to a release.

Officers said they were sent out to the 1900 block of Scenic Highway around 10:45 p.m. over reports of "an altercation involving a large group of people."

As they arrived, the officers said they heard gunfire and found a teen, later identified as 16-year-old Nasir Davis, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Davis was rushed to the hospital, where officers said he later died.

The GBI said in its release Gates allegedly shot Davis while at the party; the two reportedly knew each other.

Gates was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail. The GBI stated that the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy on Davis.

Despite the recent arrest, the Snellville Police Department and the GBI are still investigating the incident. Both agencies are asking anyone with information to contact the offices at 770-985-3555 or 770-388-5019.
