ATLANTA — One man is dead after a fight escalated into a shooting at a downtown hotel, according to police.
Atlanta Police said that shortly after 11:40 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a report of a person shot on the 26th floor of the residential side of the "W" hotel in downtown Atlanta on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard NW.
When they arrived, they found a 44-year-old male with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
According to APD, a preliminary investigation revealed the incident involved two men and a woman. A man was leaving the hotel when he encountered the other man, and a fight broke out outside the room.
The person who was arriving allegedly then shot and killed the man who was leaving the room, police said.
Police then detained one person for questioning but have not currently made any arrests. This is an active investigation, police said.
