Suspect in custody after man stabbed to death at Five Points MARTA station

It all happened just around 8 a.m., when police said the man was stabbed and killed on the northbound platform at the station.

ATLANTA — A man is now dead and a suspect is in custody after a deadly stabbing took place at the Five Points MARTA station early Monday morning, according to police.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Marcus Harris, 42.

It all happened around 8 a.m. when police said Marcus Harris was stabbed and killed on the northbound platform at the station.

Authorities added that they were able to take a suspect into custody, who they later identified as 46-year-old Jason Harris.

According to Fulton County Jail records, Jason Harris is facing multiple charges, including murder and aggravated assault.

Law enforcement said, "Rail service is single-tracking and will return to normal once MPD clears the scene." The station has since opened back up to riders.

Despite the added security measures, some riders are on edge after the deadly incident.

"I feel like I'm risking my life every time I come downtown. To be honest, I do," said Kimberly Nails, a rider of the transport system.

"I really do hope that they do something quickly, to have more police or more MARTA Police down here to make sure everyone is safe because I don't have a car right now, so I have to take MARTA to get back and forth to work the grocery store," she added.

Another MARTA rider, Jermaine Swope, believes that he needs to be aware of his surroundings after hearing about multiple deadly incidents at MARTA stations.

"I've seen incidents, I've heard incidents, and I feel like I need to be on guard at all times. I feel like awareness is everything and pay attention to your surroundings," Swope said.

No other details were released on the deadly incident.
