A Gainesville police officer has resigned after he was charged with speeding and DUI in Hall County.
Adam Blake Davis, 30, was stopped at 1:21 a.m. on I-985 on Nov. 10, Gainesville Police confirmed. Davis’ blood-alcohol level at the time of his arrest has not been released.
After he was arrested, Davis immediately submitted his resignation, said Sgt. Kevin Holbrook with Gainesville Police. Davis had been with the department for eight years.
“It was a terrible, terrible decision that could not be overlooked by us, and it’s one that, unfortunately, no matter who it was, it’s one of those decisions that will not be tolerated by any member of our agency,” Holbrook said. “So, unfortunately, it’s one of those that ended his career.”
Holbrook said Davis was a well-decorated officer who had been recognized in the community for his service. In 2013, he received a traffic safety award for occupant safety violations from Gainesville Police. He was also given a bronze award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for arresting 25 people for DUI, according to the police department's 2013 report.
“As police officers, we’re all human. However, just like everybody else, we do have to pay for those mistakes when we do make them,” Holbrook said. “We are not above the law.”
Hall County Solicitor General Stephanie Woodard is in charge of the prosecution.
She said she is in the process of gathering all evidence in this case. Davis is expected to appear in court for his arraignment early next year.
