'Its hard to grieve' | Parents of 30-year-old killed in DeKalb club push for answers nearly 3 months after shooting

DeKalb Police said Xavia McClary was shot and killed at Pluxh Club on March 24 after stepping in to try and help two female friends.

DECATUR, Ga. — Nearly three months have passed, and no arrests have been made in the death of Xavia McClary.

Dekalb County Police Department said the 30-year-old was shot and killed at Pluxh Club on March 24 after stepping in to try and help two female friends.

"It's hard to be okay when your only natural-born son is taken from you. It's hard to grieve when you don’t have a clue about what happened and who did it," Xavia's father, George Brewer, said.

Brewer and Xavia's mother Schontal continue to push for answers and ask the community for information.

"He was a good boy. Silly, joyful, a huge personality. I know he was a man, but he was a good boy," Xavia's mom, Schontal McClary, said.

Xavia was family-oriented and loving. He never let anything get him down. His loss leaves his family and both parents with a hole in their heart that will never be filled.

"There's no peace until we find the people who killed our son. Maybe if I had been there and if I  was here, maybe Xavia would here," McClary said, crying.

DeKalb Police said Xavia McClary was shot and killed at Pluxh Club on March 24 after stepping in to try and help two female friends.

Dekalb Police said Xavia went to help two of his female friends who were approached at the club by two men in suits who got hostile with them. When Xavia stepped in to defend them, shots were fired, but his friends couldn’t tell the police who fired the gun. His parents said one of his friends who was there knows what happened but won't come forward.

"We need help, we need the community’s help. We need any help we can possibly get. We’re asking the community to step in and help. Not so much step up, but step in and help," Brewer said.

Xavia’s parents said he was only there 15 to 20 minutes before the shooting happened behind closed doors. The family said cameras were inside and outside the building, but they weren’t working at the time. The building where the club was was now empty, and no arrests have been made. Despite that, his parents aren't giving up.

"If it costs me everything I have, I will fight until my last breathe," Brewer said.

Dekalb police are still looking for any tips that will lead them to the person responsible. His parents want to stress that you can stay anonymous. Any information could help them get closure. If you know anything, call Dekalb Police at 404-294-2911.
