Man dead despite wearing bulletproof vest during shooting

One man was killed during a Saturday night argument that turned into a gunfight at a Decatur restaurant that left two other men hurt. The man killed was wearing a bulletproof vest.

One man was killed and two others were injured late Saturday night when an argument turned violent outside a Candler Road restaurant.

According to a DeKalb County police spokesperson, the incident happened around 9:20 pm when two men got into an argument inside the Wats Crackin restaurant in the 300 block of Candler Road. One of the men walked outside the restaurant, and the other followed him into the parking lot.

The two men then began shooting each other.

Police believe the man who initiated the argument, who happened to be wearing a bulletproof vest, was the one who was killed. The other man suffered minor injuries, as did a third person who, according to police, was an innocent bystander.

Police identified the surviving shooting suspect as 42-year old Travis Allen. He has been charged with malice murder in connection with the case.

Police have not released the names of the men who were involved, but the man who was killed suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
