Police: Domestic dispute leaves one man dead after he pointed a gun at officers

Police said when they arrived, two teens and a woman were trying to leave a home, but a man refused to open the door.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — An officer-involved shooting came to a deadly ending overnight, according to Clayton County authorities.

Clayton County police said officers responded to a domestic dispute on Katie Lane in Morrow around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday night.

Police said when they arrived, two teens and a woman were trying to leave a home, but a man refused to open the door. That's when police said the man, identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as 68-year-old Jimmie Phillips, pointed a weapon at the officers, which caused the officers to fire their weapons at the unidentified man -- shooting and killing him.

The woman and teens were able to make it out of the home safely.

The home does have a history of domestic disputes, according to authorities. The most recent domestic dispute call happened this past August, however, no arrests were made during that incident.

The GBI is investigating the shooting. Officials said the two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on a routine administrative leave.
