GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — A driver is dead following a chase involving sheriff's deputies in Gordon County Monday, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office noted that deputies attempted to stop the victim's car around noon, believing the driver to be involved in "illegal drug distribution" on State Route 53 near Calhoun.

Eventually, a chase developed, reaching over 100 miles per hour, according to deputies.

Because the suspect was driving in "a reckless manner...endangering other motorists and bystanders," one of the deputies performed a PIT maneuver, according to a release.

That moment is when deputies said the suspect's car crashed, killing the driver inside.

At this time, the crash is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
