LILBURN, Ga. — A Stone Mountain man has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and hitting a hearse in the middle of a funeral procession in Lilburn.
According to the Lilburn police report, Troy Hickey allegedly hit the funeral hearse when it traveled through a green light on Lawrenceville Highway and Rockbridge Rd. on Feb. 8 at 1:14 p.m.
The officer said Hickey was “very excited and agitated” after the crash, “to the point his pulse was visible on his neck and he had white spit on the side of his mouth,” according to the report. The officer recognized Hickey from two other police stops that involved drugs.
Hickey denied using drugs and pulled up the right sleeve of his shirt to show them that his arms did not have signs of drug use, according to the incident report. However, the officer and medical crews said he appeared to sway in place and had fresh track marks on his arms that were still healing.
Hickey told police he last used drugs three weeks prior to the accident and was on methadone. He denied using drug recently, stating that the marks on his arms were old.
He failed the DUI field sobriety test but blamed it on an ankle injury.
Hickey was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs failure to give right of way to a funeral procession and failure to obey a person directing traffic. He was transported to Gwinnett County Jail.
