Efforts to save gunshot victim fail, man dies at hospital

One person has been detained but has not been named a suspect.

DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Attempts to save a gunshot victim discovered in a neighborhood not far from a DeKalb County elementary school Wednesday were unsuccessful, police said.

A DeKalb County police spokesperson said that around 3 p.m., officers were called to the 3000 block of Weslock Circle in the Panthersville neighborhood of DeKalb County. They arrived to find the victim, identified right now only as male, unresponsive.

The man was taken to an area hospital but ultimately died from his injuries. Police have detained one person but weren't yet referring to them as a suspect. The person is being interviewed by investigators.

Neither the victim's name nor the motive of the shooting have been released as police continue to investigate. The shooting scene is in a residential area, just behind Barack Obama Elementary School and Gresham Park Recreation Center.
