Ex-boyfriend indicted in death of Kennesaw State student killed on campus

Samuel Harris faces six charges, including felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault, in connection to the death of 21-year-old Alasia Franklin.

KENNESAW, Ga. — The ex-boyfriend of a student killed on Kennesaw State University's campus has been indicted on charges in connection to her death.

A Cobb County grand jury indicted Samuel Harris, 21, on six charges on Thursday, including felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault in connection to the May 18 shooting that killed Alasia Franklin, 21, in front of the Austin Residence Complex.

Family has identified 21-year-old Alasia Franklin as the victim in KSU's deadly shooting on Saturday.

The university said Harris, who is not a student at the school, allegedly shot and killed Franklin after a dispute. He initially left the scene but was located off campus shortly after and detained by Cobb County Police.

Harris was also charged with charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a weapon within a school area and tampering with evidence. According to the indictment, investigators believe he took Franklin's cell phone and car after the shooting.

Franklin's mother previously told 11Alive that the two used to date in high school, but there was no history of violence that she knew of.

The 21-year-old was a rising junior with dreams of pursuing a career to become a nurse practitioner.
