GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Just over a week after a pregnant 16-year-old's family found her dead in a wooded area in Loganville, her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her and her unborn child's murder.
Jesus Monroy is charged with malice murder, felony murder, feticide and aggravated assault, the Gwinnett County Police Department announced Tuesday.
Monroy is accused of killing Mia Campos, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death. He was initially arrested after Campos' death and charged with providing false statements to police about the case.
On July 15, around 1 a.m., police were called to the 3600 block of Stephens Road after Campos' family found her body in the woods just off the roadway.
The family told officers that the teen had left their house the night before with an unknown person. When she didn't come home, her family used a cell phone app to locate her. They found her body just two minutes away from their home.
Her father, Eduardo Campos, previously told 11Alive, “Thank you, God, for letting me find my daughter. When I saw her, I was like, 'They killed my baby.'
