DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A father whose youngest baby recently turned a week old was shot and killed in DeKalb County, according to family members on Friday.
It happened on Huntwood Drive in Decatur, which is not far from Flat Shoals Parkway. The victim's mother, Tammy Castlin, said the incident was initially reported as a car crash, but when they arrived, the family reported that their loved one, Brandon Castlin, was robbed before he was killed.
"You took a jewel from my family," Castlin said. "You took a jewel from me, that was my child. you had no right to take him."
Castlin said her son had left her home to go to the mother of his child's home when it happened. His mother said her 34-year-old son's body was found on the side of his home, and his wallet and car were missing.
"Why take from somebody? Get a job, turn yourself in," She said. "Because the violence has to stop, somewhere. I should not have to bury my child."
His brother, Chris Simmons, can't forget the heartbreaking moment as he saw his brother lying lifeless on the ground.
"I can't even tell you. I haven't really processed it because I'm the one who found him. Tried to do CPR, tried to save my brother. I'm the one who closed his eyes and kissed him on his forehead and told him 'I'll see you next time," said Chris.
According to the family, he was a father to four children. DeKalb County Police Department said they do not have anyone in custody.
