COVINGTON, Ga. — A father is now being charged with murder after police said he shot and killed his own son inside of a home in Covington on Friday evening.
Covington Police said they were dispatched to a home in the 8000 block of Lakeview Drive at 6:55 p.m. on Friday in reference to a person shot.
When police officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as 60-year-old Troy Eaton, dead inside of the home on the lakeside property in Covington.
The suspect, Troy's father, Wayne Eaton was still at the home when officers showed up. Police said the 85-year-old father was taken into custody. He was charged with malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and booked into the Newton County Jail.
It's unclear what led up to this shooting, but Covington Police said its investigation remains ongoing. If anybody has any information on this case, they are asked to contact Det. Treadwell at 770-385-2196.
