FBI agents have arrested a man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the head during an argument - a crime she wasn't even aware of until doctors found the bullet in her skull months later.
The agency-led Atlanta Metro Major Offender (AMMO) task force arrested 38-year-old Jerrontae D. Cain well over a year after he was accused of shooting his 41-year-old girlfriend.
On June 26, 2017, Atlanta police learned that a woman had come into Atlanta Medical Center complaining of head pains. Police said doctors discovered that the culprit was a bullet lodge in the back of her skull.
Despite the dramatic injury, the victim allegedly had no idea she had been shot. Investigators later discovered that the bullet was the result of an argument about two months before her hospital visit that happened outside her home on Godfrey Drive in Atlanta.
Police later alleged that Cain, her then-boyfriend, was a lead suspect in the crime.
A tip to Crime Stoppers ultimately helped police find the fugitive on Aspen Avenue in College Park - roughly a year-and-a-half later.
Cain was cornered in an attic where he remained for about 2 hours before finally surrendering to officers and agents. He now faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
