Former principal to plead guilty to stealing $500K from public school system

Christopher Clemons faces a maximum of 865 years in prison and a fine of $5.5 million.

ATLANTA — A former principal is set to plead guilty to swindling nearly $500,000 from several metro Atlanta schools and defrauding a charter school business out of another $300,000.

Christopher Clemons, 38, will lead guilty Jan. 23 to two separate indictments.

The first from Oct. 2, 2016 charges Clemons with 40 counts of theft by Fiduciary, three counts of theft by deception, three counts of forgery in the first degree and two counts of theft by taking. The second set of indictments from Sept. 1, 2017 charges Clemons with an additional five counts of theft by taking and two counts of forgery in the first degree.

Together, the indictments alleged that Clemons stole nearly half a million dollars from the Latin Grammar School and Latin College Preparatory School and one Atlanta Public School.

On top of allegedly stealing money directly from the schools, the indictments contend Clemons also defrauded a business that provides funding to charter schools out of another $300,000.

Clemons faces a maximum of 865 years in prison and a fine of $5.5 million.
