9 dogs found dead at Fulton County residence, police say

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Fulton County Police detained several people at a home Thursday after after nine dogs were found dead a the residence, police said. 

According to the Fulton County Police Department, its newly-formed Animal Services Division executed a search warrant at a resident on the 2800 block of Old Farm Road for multiple cruelty to animal charges. 

When police arrived, they found 19 dogs at the location where nine of them were dead. Police said that a male pit bull charged and attacked an officer, and so another officer then discharged his weapon -- striking the dog twice. No other injuries were reported. 

Four people were arrested and taken into custody for multiple warrants out of different local jurisdictions, and one was arrested for nine counts of felony animal cruelty. 

This is an ongoing investigation, police said.
