FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A 23-year-old Fulton County detention officer was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges, including violation of oath, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said the investigation into Jessie Scott's actions involves contraband entering the Fulton County Jail on Rice Street and inappropriate and criminal conduct. Scott was fired the same day he was arrested.
Scott was charged with five counts of violation of oath as a public officer, two counts of distributing obscene materials, one count each of impersonating a public officer, willful obstruction of law enforcement officer, and unauthorized possession of prohibited items by inmates.
“When an officer chooses to violate their oath and display behavior that compromises our facilities, they must be held accountable,” said Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat.
He was originally hired last December and worked as a jailer until he was fired on Wednesday following his arrest. Scott was still a probationary employee at the time of his termination, the sheriff's office said.
"The termination of two officers in just two weeks demonstrates that we are beyond reproach to ensure the safety of all employees and the inmates in our care and custody. Our Jail Investigations and Criminal Investigations Units are working diligently to investigate employee misconduct and bring these offenders to justice," Sheriff Labat said.
Scott was granted a $25,000 bond on Wednesday. According to court records, one of his conditions is not to have any further contact with any inmates. His next court date has not been scheduled. He is currently being held at the North Annex Jail in Alpharetta.
