Gainesville police vehicle stolen, taken on joyride

The vehicle crashed a short distance from where it was taken.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Gainesville Police said someone stole a Gainesville patrol vehicle early Sunday morning from the Paces Landing Apartments on Paces Court, then crashed it a short distance away.

Investigators said it happened at about 5:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Paces Court.

They said that someone broke into the vehicle, then drove off in the vehicle. The vehicle was involved in what police described as a minor crash a short distance away from where it was taken.

According to a release from police, safety features equipped in the vehicle alerted officers to the location where it was recovered.

Police said they are conducting an active investigation..
