GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A member of the Nine Trey Gangsters will spend the rest of his life in prison after carrying out orders to kill a man over $500.
Durrell Lewis was convicted on malice murder, three counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, aggravated battery, criminal street gang activity and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting death of Jeffery Anderson.
According to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, Lewis took his orders from a jailed leader of the gang, Gordon Evans, who communicated through a contraband cell phone.
Evans was already serving a 20-year sentence in Hays State Prison in Summerville, Georgia when he made the call - which was picked up by a court-authorized wiretap of the illegal phone.
The investigation also uncovered, one month before the hit, the same number used in the by Evans had sent a threatening message to the victim.
Court records said that Evans bragged about sending Lewis and another person, Dossie Mann, to kill Anderson - referring to killers as the fictitious mafia enforcer from the "Godfather" movies and novel, "Luca Brasi."
The two would arrive on Nov. 24, 2015 to the 2700 block of River Station Court in Gwinnett County and carry out the murder with two gunshot wounds to the back of Anderson's head.
Durrell pleaded guilty on Thursday and was sentenced to life in prison. Before him, Evans was also sentenced to life following a two-week jury trial in August 2018. Man was convicted after entering a guilt plea in 2017 and was also sentenced to life.
