The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the names of two employees who resigned after taking inappropriate photos of a murder victim during a medical examination.
Jesse Landen Wilson, who held the job title of Death Investigation Specialist, was with the GBI for 6 years and 7 months before the incident. James N. Brown, a Graphics and Visual Arts Specialist, was with the department for 25 years.
Wilson and Brown resigned but would have been fired if they hadn't, said Nelly Miles with the GBI.
The inappropriate photo was taken during an examination of the body of Robert Page, who was allegedly dismembered by a man who lived next door.
"It has been an honor working for this agency and I sincerely apologize for any problems I have created," Brown wrote in his resignation letter obtained by 11Alive.
Clayton County man found dismembered
Brown took the photo and Wilson posed in the photo with Page's remains, Miles said.
Miles said under a new policy personal photos are no longer allowed in the medical examiner's office.
An internal affairs investigation into the photo remains open.
25-year-old Christian Ponce Martinez has been charged in Page’s murder. Police said Martinez was renting the home next door to Page and apparently got into a fight with Page at his home. Page was reported missing by his wife and a trail of blood led detectives to the home next door, according to investigators.
Police officers found parts of 77-year-old Page’s dismembered body under a tarp in the home Martinez was renting and more body parts were found inside a cooler in the home.
Martinez was found hiding under a tarp in the home and was transported to Clayton County Jail.
He is expected to stand trial in Page’s death.
