WALTON COUNTY, Ga. —
State agents have now identified the suspect they believe was shot in Walton County.
Hasani Romario Paisley,19, initially caught the attention of a deputy because he was dancing in the middle of Highway 81 around 3:30 p.m., according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent-in-Charge Mike Ayers.
As the officer turned around, Ayers said the suspect began “jogging” the other way and that’s when the officer followed him on foot. The deputy told GBI agents he ordered Paisley to stop.
"During the foot chase, the individual turned around brandishing a firearm pointed in the direction of the officer," Ayers said.
The officer told dispatchers the suspect had a firearm. That’s when the deputy said he fired his gun and hit Paisley. Ayers said authorities later recovered the suspect’s gun at the scene.
Paisley is still in the hospital in stable condition. Officials said the suspect is in custody pending formal charges to be taken by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Ayers, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office has followed their normal protocol and placed the deputy on Administrative Leave with pay.
The incident is still under investigation.
