BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A man is dead after being shot during a SWAT situation on Sunday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Around 4 p.m. on August 18, deputies with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office were sent to a home on Wesley Mill Drive in Adairsville after 60-year-old Chris Cochran made death threats against his wife, as well as a crisis intervention team that was helping.
That group eventually took shelter across the street at a neighbor's house, where deputies provided security.
The GBI noted that Cochran kept many guns in his house. He eventually began breaking windows on his home and threatening to kill those across the street.
SWAT eventually made their way to the home to remove everyone safely and get Cochran into custody. When Cochran pointed a gun outside his house's second-story window and threatened those outside, he was shot by a SWAT member.
Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bartow County Coroner’s Office. The GBI said his body will be taken to the examiner's office for an autopsy to be performed.
