HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -- A 15-year-old and a police officer are in the hospital with gunshot wounds after police said the teen reached for the officer's weapon.
It happened while a pair of Department of Juvenile Justice officers were taking the teen from a group home in Macon to the Martha Glaze Regional Youth Detention Center in Henry County.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the teen first grabbed the steering wheel. Then, as the car exited the roadway, the teen reached for the officer Shadricka Miller's gun and shot her in the hand.
That's when the GBI said the officer sitting in back, Michael Hall, shot the teen.
Both the teen and Miller were taken to the hospital. Miller was treated and released. The teen is still being treated and his condition hasn't been provided.
The teen was being transported in a typical car and not a traditional police cruiser with a protective divider, officials said in a press conference at the scene.
The car came to a stop at the Racetrack gas station on Highway 20. That's where investigators converged a short time after the incident.
