According to the Clayton County Police Department, an initial call came in around 4:30 p.m. of a suspicious person as a neighbor reported suspects entering a vacant home on Chippewa Drive.

Police said the 18-year-old allegedly came out of the rear of the house armed and engaged with an officer. The officer gave commands to drop the weapon and also told the suspect to stop, police said. The officer then opened fire -- killing the teenager, police said.

The GBI has since identified the teenager who died as Hakim Al-Nas.

No officers were hurt in this incident. A weapon was recovered at the scene and is believed to have belonged to Al-Nas, police said. The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave, as is protocol.

Four suspects were involved in total, including Al-Nas. Two other 18-year-olds and a 16-year-old are currently in custody for this incident, police stated.

Once the GBI completes its investigation, the case file will be given to the Clayton County District Attorney's Office for review.
