BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. — A 30-year-old man is now behind bars after allegedly attacking two Butts County deputies with a machete on Monday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation

It happened in Jenkinsburg around 9:20 a.m. when Butts County Sheriff's deputies went to a home on County Line Road to serve an eviction notice to the man, according to the GBI's news release.

The release added that while the deputies were at the home, the man allegedly grabbed a machete and began attacking the deputies.

Both of the deputies were injured and taken to the hospital. According to the GBI, the deputies are "in stable condition and expected to be released."

The Butts County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook further detailing the deputies' injuries.

One of the deputies had a cut on his arm and was treated and released from the hospital, the post stated.

The other deputy had a cut on his head and hand and is in "stable condition." He is still at the hospital, according to the Butts County Sheriff's Office. The doctors are "monitoring changing conditions."

"I want to make this very, very clear. If you assault one of my deputies and are fortunate enough to live another day, rest assured, when convicted I will do everything in my legal power to see that you spend every possible day in a State Prison," the post added. "In this profession, we go to work every day knowing that there is a possibility that we won’t make it home, but we are willing to risk it all to save life and property of those we serve. These deputies are true heroes and true public servants, please keep them in your thoughts and prayer."

The suspect is currently in custody at the Butts County Jail. The GBI will continue to investigate the incident.
