AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a pageant queen for allegedly killing a small toddler.

The GBI said it charged 18-year-old Trinity Poague of Donalsonville with felony murder, aggravated battery and cruelty to children in the first degree.

This comes after the Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department asked the GBI to investigate the death of a child on Jan. 14, according to a release by the GBI.

So far, the investigation has revealed that an unresponsive 18-month-old boy was admitted to an emergency room at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus. Hospital personnel performed life-saving measures, but the 1-year-old boy died.

GBI agents arrested Poague after multiple interviews and an examination of evidence, according to a release. Poague is currently booked at the Sumter County Jail with no bond.

After the investigation is completed, the case will be given to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution, the GBI said.

According to 11Alive's NBC affiliate WALB in Albany, Poague won Miss Donalsonville last year and also competed in the Miss National Peanut Festival Pageant.

The GBI did not say how the toddler died and did not state Poague's relation to the boy.
