ATLANTA — Atlanta Police said four Georgia Tech students were accosted and robbed at gunpoint Monday night as they left the Krispy Kreme shop on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta.
According to a police report, the four students -- Robert Garbee, Matthew Dick, Siddharth Salunkhe and Erik Shuster -- were approached as they walked out of the restaurant by a black male who asked them if they had a lighter. When one of them said they didn't, the male asked the students for some money.
Garbee gave the suspect $5, because he said that was the only cash he had on him.
"This all you got?" the suspect asked, then jumped into Garbee's vehicle. He pulled a silver and black pistol. "All right, [expletive deleted], give me all your phones!"
At that point, a second suspect approached the vehicle.
All six people -- the four victims and the two suspects -- got into Garbee's coupe. The suspects sat in each other's lap in the front seat, according to the report. They forced Garbee to drive around while they cleared the victims' phones out.
The suspects forced Garbee to drive to a Wells Fargo Bank in the 600 block of Lee Street, SW, to withdraw money. They forced each victim to get out of the car one-by-one to withdraw $200 each from the ATM there. One suspect remained in the car while the other suspect walked each victim separately to the ATM.
The report said that afterward, the suspects forced Garbee to drive them around an additional 15 minutes before having him to drop them off near Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The victims said they immediately drove to the Georgia Tech Police Precinct to report the armed robbery.
Garbee, Shuster and Dick said they both had $200 cash and their Samsung Galaxy cellphones taken from them. Salunkhe said that $220 cash, his identification and his black Samsung Galaxy S8 cellphone were taken from him.
Investigators said the first suspect was described as a slim black male, wearing a black jacket, black pants and a hat with a 'NY' logo. The second suspect was described as a heavy-set black male with a gray jacket that kept his face covered.
