SUNRISE, Fla. -- A South Florida man is charged with first-degree murder after allegedly mutilating, murdering and disemboweling his girlfriend in a drunken rage after she called out her ex-husband's name in the midst of rough sex, according to a police report.

Fidel Lopez, 24, of Sunrise, called 911 before 4 a.m. Sunday, saying his girlfriend, Maria Nemeth, was having trouble breathing at the couple's apartment, located in the 1600 block of Northwest 128th Drive, and she "was going to die," an arrest report said.

When first responders arrived, they found Lopez standing next to Nemeth's lifeless body, crying for help, according to the report. Blood surrounded Nemeth's body and there was a large amount on the floor inside the closet, including "what appeared to be several chunks of bloody tissue" later identified as intestinal matter, the report said.

Investigators also found the signs of foul play -- a shattered sliding glass door, holes in the drywall and a closet door torn off its hinges, according to the report. Next door neighbors recalled hearing a man's voice yelling inside the couple's apartment along with "loud banging noises" for about two hours.

Initially, Lopez told investigators the couple had been drinking tequila inside the apartment when at some point they started having sex before she went into the bathroom to vomit and pass out.

In a subsequent interview, however, Lopez acknowledged that he flew into a rage -- saying he became a "monster" -- when Nemeth uttered her ex-husband's name twice during sex, according to the report. Afterward, he ransacked the couple's apartment -- breaking things, smashing the glass door and punching holes in the wall, the report said.

Then, Lopez went into the closet where Nemeth was passed out and allegedly started inserting several objects into her orifices. Lopez acknowledged ripping bloody tissue out of Nemeth while she lay unconscious on the floor, according to the report.

Lopez then carried Nemeth's body into the bathroom and tried to revive her by splashing cold water on her face. After washing his hands and smoking a cigarette on the porch, he started to panic and went into the closet to try and cover up the bloody mess, the report said.

Afterward, he called 911.

Lopez was arrested Sunday afternoon for first-degree murder. He remains in Sunrise Jail without bond where he's awaiting trial.
