37 vehicles broken into at three Gwinnett County schools | What authorities are saying

Thirty-seven vehicles total were ransacked at Archer High School, Trip Elementary School, and Brookwood Elementary.

ATLANTA — Authorities with Gwinnett County Schools are currently looking into a series of car break-ins that occurred on Tuesday on multiple campuses.

Thirty-seven vehicles total were ransacked at Archer High School, Trip Elementary School, and Brookwood Elementary.

No suspects have yet been listed, according to Chief Tony Lockard with Gwinnett County School Police.

Some of the cars, he said, had broken windows, though many others were simply unlocked.

Lockard emphasized the importance of removing valuable items from your vehicle, keeping them out of sight, and locking your car, noting "these crimes can happen anywhere."

At this time, authorities said they do not believe students to be behind the break-ins, noting two unidentified individuals who were spotted on surveillance cameras.

Lockard said that footage is not being released as the investigation is ongoing.

Among the items stolen are personal electronic devices, credit cards, debit cards, and even purses.

For the time being, extra officers will be at the schools, and GCPS Police are partnering with other local authorities to monitor the situation.
