GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An alleged drunk driver is now facing charges after hitting a Gwinnett County Police patrol car that was assisting in a crash on I-85 and causing another wreck, according to authorities.
It all happened on Dec. 17 when the officer parked his car to block the right lane of I-85 North, helping officers who were working an accident up ahead stay safe.
In the video, which was posted on social media Friday, the officer can be seen patrolling the area outside of his vehicle until the alleged drunk driver crashes into his patrol car.
Loud glass can be heard shattering right on impact when the car hits the patrol car. The video then showed the moment when another vehicle hit the car as it smashes into it.
You can then hear the officer calling in the incident over his radio.
"Just happened. Same location involving my vehicle. All officers are good for," the officer can be heard saying to responders.
Law enforcement said that the driver that initially hit the patrol car was charged with driving under the influence, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, following too closely and having a suspended license.
Police did not report if there were any injuries in the incident.
