Gwinnett County woman charged with murder after child dies following fentanyl exposure, warrants say

D'Brianne Brielle-Darne McMillan is charged with second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, and other drug-related charges.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 30-year-old woman is now behind bars after a child died after being exposed to fentanyl, according to warrants.

D'Brianne Brielle-Darne McMillan is charged with second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, two counts of meth possession, two counts of possession and use of drug-related objects, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

According to warrants, the incident happened at a home on Whitecrest Court in Lawrenceville on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Jail records show that the woman was arrested the next day, Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The court documents stated that McMillan allegedly had fentanyl close to the victim while the child was sitting in a car safety seat. Warrants also stated that the woman allegedly left the substance in her bedroom with the child unattended.

Authorities stated in the warrants that the exposure to the substance led to the child's death.

It's unclear if the child and the woman are related, but it appears the child was in her care at the time of the incident. Authorities also did not release the child's age.

Court documents stated that McMillan's bond was denied. She is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail.
