Man turns himself in after road rage shooting that hurt Gwinnett DA Office investigator, authorities say

Authorities said Tyler Dewayne Moore, 27, shot at a Gwinnett County District Attorney's office investigator on July 7 in a road rage incident.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A man accused of shooting at a Gwinnett County employee last week has turned himself in, investigators said.

In warrants issued Monday, authorities said Tyler Dewayne Moore, 27, shot at a Gwinnett County District Attorney's office investigator on July 7 in a road rage incident.

The shooting happened in Dacula around Auburn Road and Appling Hills Drive. Police said the off-duty investigator was driving in an unmarked patrol vehicle when he was allegedly approached by Moore, who was said to be driving a silver SUV. Moore then started shooting at the Gwinnett County investigator, according to authorities.

The investigator was able to pull off the road into a convenience store parking lot to signal via radio that he had been shot.

The DA office investigator is expected to survive his injuries, according to police.

Moore took off from the scene leaving Gwinnett County Police Department officers searching for his damaged vehicle throughout the weekend, authorities said. Gwinnett County Police also enlisted the assistance of nearby agencies.

Police said officers were able to identify the vehicle and Moore on Sunday, but when they went to arrest him, Moore wasn't home.

“His vehicle was inside the garage of the home so our investigators impounded the vehicle here to Gwinnett County police headquarters," Ofc. Michele Pihera said.

Moore turned himself in Monday around 1 a.m., according to Pihera.

Court records show he is accused of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit a crime and damaging a Gwinnett County DA vehicle in the shooting. Damage to the vehicle exceeded $500, according to court records.

In addition, there is a hold placed on Moore by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in regard to failing to appear after operating a commercial vehicle without the proper license.

Moore is expected to go before a Gwinnett County judge later this week. In the warrants, officials asked for his bond to be denied on the grounds that he is a danger to the community.
