Gwinnett SWAT finds murder suspect dead inside apartment while serving warrant, police say

They said when they arrived on the scene, the suspect was already deceased.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An investigation is underway after Gwinnett Police said SWAT found a murder suspect dead Tuesday night.

The police department said they went to Hillandale Drive to serve a warrant for the April murder outside a Peachtree Corners convenience store.

Police said deputies believed they had located Aaron Woods inside an apartment in Peachtree Corners, but were unable to make direct contact with him.

"The decision was made to call Gwinnett Police SWAT Team, believing Woods was possibly barricaded in the apartment," police said in a statement.

After several hours and numerous attempts no contact was made with Woods. When they arrived at the apartment, they said they located the suspect was already dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Woods is suspected of killing 22-year-old Kendall Reid on April 25. They are believed to be "family acquittances," police said.
