ATLANTA — 11Alive was on the scene of an incident that ended with multiple agencies in the parking lot of a local coffee shop.
Our crews arrived just before 10 p.m. to the area of Moreland and Ormewood avenues where Atlanta Police and Georgia State Patrol cars had already arrived and a helicopter was flying overhead.
Our photographer on the ground reports a vehicle being towed in the parking lot of a coffee house and damage to at least two Georgia State Patrol vehicles.
The Georgia State Patrol said a trooper stopped a 3-wheeled motorcycle for speeding. During the stop, they said a small bag of marijuana was found on the rider. They asked the driver to turn off the vehicle and get off. The rider turned off his headlights and sped away.
A short chase pursued and another trooper followed the motorcycle into a private driveway. They said a trooper's car made contact with the 3-wheeler, causing the patrol car to hit a building.
The driver of the motorcycle crashed into a curb in a parking lot, striking patio furniture and then ran off. Troopers found him hiding in nearby bushes and took him into custody.
Officers on the scene have not provided many details but one trooper at the scene said one person had been detained in handcuffs while driving a "3-wheeled street legal vehicle." The trooper also said that it was unclear if there was any structural damage to the building nearby.
11Alive is in contact with Atlanta Police and the Georgia State Patrol to gather more information. This is a developing story. Check back for updates as they become available.
