Gwinnett police say a man was shot and killed in broad daylight in downtown Buford on Tuesday.
It happened near West Main Street and South Lee Street in Buford.
According to officials, Gwinnett County Police got a call around noon about a possible active shooter near the intersection.
When officers got there, they found the 25-year-old man, later identified as Allen Craig Willard, Jr., dead in the street. First responders also quickly determined that it was not an active shooter situation, rather a fatal altercation between two people who knew each other.
At this time, police believe the suspect, 34-year-old Jerome Daniel Colvin, and the victim both knew each other from work and were eating lunch nearby when they ended up going out into the street where a disagreement took place.
Police arrested Colvin after the shooting and charged him with felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault.
11Alive received multiple calls into the newsroom about heavy police presence in the area. A spokesperson said the large presence was due to initial calls that this was an "active shooter" scenario - meaning the violence might not be over.
Had it been this type of incident, it would have been the third major incident of that time in roughly 24 hours with active-shooter situations reported in both Chicago and Denver on Monday.
