HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. — Lanes are back open on Interstate 20 in Haralson County after a high-speed chase turned into a shooting involving deputies and officers on Saturday.
It happened around 4 a.m. when the Haralson County Sheriff's Office said dispatch notified them that a high-speed chase near Alabama state lines was nearing Georgia. Deputies then headed out to the Georgia line on I-20 to join the pursuit before Veterans Memorial Highway/State Route 100.
When the car made it to Georgia, deputies said the car spun out, and the driver then opened fire on authorities. That's when deputies and other officers returned fire.
Authorities said there was no danger to the public and that no deputies or officers were injured. The interstate was shut down while the investigation was happening.
No information was released about how the chase started or if the driver was hit by returning gunfire. Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on its way to investigate.
