ATLANTA -- Police have made one arrest after a high-speed, wrong way chase through Buckhead, Wednesday morning.

Georgia State Patrol troopers were called in to assist Atlanta officers who were already in pursuit of a stolen vehicle just after 1 a.m.

According to details released by the GSP, the stolen Toyota Corolla was heading north on Piedmont Road just south of Pharr Road when they caught sight of it.

It then passed GSP Sergeant First Class Collins near the intersection of East Paces Ferry and Piedmont roads. From there, he took point in the chase as it continued along Piedmont Road. Collins radioed-in to Atlanta dispatch and continued pursuit as the chase continued toward the Peachtree Road intersection and moved north to Roswell Road.

By this point, a second trooper, Sgt. Buckner, had already joined the pursuit. The chase had also become even more intense with the driver hitting high speeds and crossing into oncoming traffic.

From Roswell Road, the driver made it to I-285 heading east before SFC Collins was forced to PIT maneuver the vehicle. But the chase didn’t end there.

All five occupants ran from the car heading south into nearby woods with both Collins and Buckner not far behind. They managed to catch one suspect as he tried to climb a fence but the other four managed to get away despite a multi-agency search.

Investigators ultimately found a stolen handgun in the car. The only injuries reported involved the lone arrestee and his unsuccessful attempt to climb the fence. He was taken to North Fulton Hospital for treatment.
